Hi, I'm Doug.

I help companies around the world integrate Shelly smart home products into their offerings. I also run hands-on wiring workshops at my office in Boca Raton.

A lot of that work turns into solutions worth sharing. This is where I write them up step by step: what I used, how it's wired, and how it's set up to run on your own network without a cloud service in the middle. If you've been to one of my workshops, some of this will look familiar.

I care a lot about privacy, so everything here focuses local control. If a device needs to phone home to do its job, I'll tell you, and I'll usually show you a way around it.

Opinions here are my own, not those of my employer.

A Doorbell You Can See: Flashing the Lights with Shelly 1 Gen4

A doorbell chime only works if you can hear it. This project adds a Shelly 1 Gen4 between the button and the chime, so the doorbell still rings like it always has, and the lights in the house turn on at the same time. For someone with a hearing impairment, that means no more missed deliveries or visitors left standing at the door. An optional script flashes the lights several times.
